DNA Testing for Disease Predisposition

Genetic DNA testing is now routinely performed prenatally to detect birth defects and postnally to determine the liklihood of a person to inherit and contract a particular hereditary disease or disorder. DNA testing can be used to detect the particular genetic pattern for the following conditions (this list is not comprehensive):

  • Breast and ovarian cancer (hereditary forms)
  • Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
  • Chronic lung or liver disease
  • Blood clotting disorders (Thrombophilia)
  • Hemochromatosis (iron overload)
