The DNA Maternity Test

DNA maternity testing is a popular and precise way of determining the true biological mother of a child. As such, it is commonly used in the legal system in child custody and support cases, and is fully permissible by law. DNA samples are taken from the alleged mother and child, and also the father if possible to increase accuracy.

DNA samples used for paternity testing include buccal (cheek) cells, any bodily fluid, hair, skin flakes, or a used toothbrush, dental floss, razor, chewing gum or eating utensil. A popular home DNA test kit involves obtaining a DNA sample by swabbing the inside of the cheek with a cotton swab and then mailing the kit to the DNA testing provider.
